What Makes a Good Tip

A great tip doesn’t have to be long — it just needs to be clear, factual, and specific. Below are some guidelines to help you write a strong, effective submission.

What to Include in Your Tip

Why is it important?
What’s the public interest? Is this a matter of public safety, misuse of taxpayer money, abuse of power, etc.?

What happened?
Briefly describe the event, issue, or situation. Focus on facts, not opinions.

Who was involved?
If you know names, roles, or affiliations, include them. If not, describe as best you can.

When and where did it occur?
Dates, locations, or recurring patterns are useful.

How do you know?
Explain how you came to know this information — firsthand experience, documentation, observation, etc. Stay Safe

If you’re worried about retaliation:

Avoid tipping from work or school networks.

Use a new Proton Mail account with no personal info.
